Breath Foundation or Breath Care for Kids (BCFK) has been established in 1995 by Diederik Van Heemstra and Nico De Borst. Diederik was a paediatrician and medical adviser and was involved in a project for children in Gdansk, Poland. Nico was a marathon runner wearing the Sparta Rotterdam football shirt and he let his kilometers be sponsored in support of the clinic where his dear mother spent the last days of her life in loving care.
Together they decided to combine eacht other's strenghts and to found the Breath Foundation. Goal of the foundation: to support vulnerable children, regardless of religion, skin colour, parentage or conviction anywhere in the world to an independent life. Sport is important in all sponsor activitities in which Breath Care for Kids participates.
Our mission is to offer a future to these children regardless of religion, colour of skin, parentage or conviction.
The foundation operates in various countries, in co-operation with local organisations. Children in Georgia, Romania and Ukraine live in our houses, which have been purchased and outfitted especially for these children. The foundation takes care of facilities in the fields of health, education, safety and security and mental health. By doing so the foundation gives children from desperate situations a chance to build a stable future after all.
In cooperation with various charitable funds, sponsors and our loyal donors we have been able to establish a wide range of projects . But with lots more work to do, we are constantly looking for new sponsors and donors. Please have a look at the possibilities on our page sponsoring.
